Yes, It is possible to turn it on and off in G-code.. in laser GRBL you can put an M7 in the start code, and an M9 in the end code, which turns off both M7 and M8
I use M7 and M8 for air bleed (a slow bleed of air to keep lens cleaner whislt engraving).
And air assist, high flow air for cutting..
I combine the extraction fan output with the bleed air, and a delay at the end to turn off the fan output
